10 tricks to improve concentration

We need the ability to concentrate in every moment of our lives – we need to focus on work, driving a car, preparing dinner, and even watching a film on TV. Concentration – like any other human ability – can, however, be temporarily reduced, as a result of various factors. Fortunately, there are ways to improve it!

Although the ability to concentrate is most often associated with learning or intellectual work, in fact, it is essential for people every day, at any time, while performing the smallest activities. Sometimes the ability to focus attention decreases – this can be influenced by the weather outside the window, but also by sleeplessness, fatigue, and stress. We present proven methods to improve it in a natural way!

Tricks to improve concentration

1. Keep the workplace tidy

If you have a lot of learning ahead, as an exam is approaching, or if you need to focus on a new project for work, put your immediate surroundings in order. Arrange everything on your desk, take out dirty cups, wipe the table top free of dust. You will work better in an orderly space.

2. Remember about oxygen

Our brain is responsible for our ability to concentrate, and it needs oxygen to work properly. Before commencing any intellectual activity, ventilate the room properly, and do it regularly during work, even in winter!

3. Take short breaks

The moment you open the window to let in some fresh air, use it for a short rest. Walk around the room, stretch your legs, take a couple of deep breaths. Look at something green – this colour has a soothing effect on our eyes!

4. Crunch some nuts

If you like to bite through something while working or studying, let it be walnuts, hazelnuts, pistachios, or peanuts. Although they are quite calorific, they contain micro-elements necessary for the proper functioning of the brain.

5. Drink a lot

Proper hydration of the body during intellectual effort is very important! Contrary to stereotypical opinions, coffee or caffeine-based energy drinks only offer short-term effects. It will be better to drink non-carbonated mineral water constantly. For a better taste, you can add sliced citrus fruit or mint leaves.

6. Make a list

If you have a lot of knowledge to master or several tasks to complete, create a list and tick off each successive item you have learned or done. Setting stages avoids the impression that there are too many responsibilities.

7. Take a nap

If you have such an opportunity – because you work at home, for example – grab forty winks in the early afternoon or just lie down, close your eyes, and try to relax. Only a few moments of such rest will allow the brain to regenerate.

8. Eliminate distractions

Admittedly, there are people who are will never be disturbed while learning, even by a brass band playing outside their window, but there are really only few of them. Turn off the TV and radio, and mute the mobile phone and the intercom ringtone, if you can. For a few hours, you do not exist to the rest of the world!
